Filling Application Form
Social Insurance Number (SIN)
As a newcomer to Canada or a temporary resident, you need a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work in Canada or to
receive benefits and services from government programs. Further information is available by visiting Service Canada website.
Doctor Consulting Patient
Medical Services Plan (MSP)
Upon arrival in BC, you and your family will be eligible for coverage
with the Medical Services Plan after three months. It is recommended that you obtain private medical insurance during the wait period. You should apply to the Medical Services Plan for
coverage under the provincial plan as soon as you arrive in BC.
Signing a Contract
Professional Liability Insurance
Medical indemnity or malpractice insurance is mandatory
and must be in place prior to commencement of practice in
BC. Please refer to the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) for comprehensive information.
Invoice Calculation Scene

A billing number is required to be able to bill the government for
the medical services you provide.

Please refer to the Doctors of BC website for information regarding benefits and services available to members.

Reminder: Extending your Work Permit

Please note: It is the physician’s responsibility to maintain legal status to live and work in BC. It is recommended that you apply to extend your work permit at least 30 days before your current work permit expires. You will need to contact your sponsoring health authority to proceed.
